5 MW cogeneration plant, India

Renewable energy generation India.

The 5 MW cogeneration plant is located in Kurukshetra, a district in the Indian state of Haryana. The project uses biomass residues from rice husks to generate electricity. The project is a cogeneration plant with a 5 MW turbine. The main objective of the project is to generate process steam and electricity to reduce dependence on the power grid, which is mainly based on fossil fuels.

By selectively utilizing waste heat, cogeneration plants achieve a higher degree of utilization than conventional power plants that only generate electricity. Accordingly, fuels and CO2 emissions are reduced.

The project supports the following SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals):

  •  Social well-being
  • Economic and environmental well-being
  • Technology

The project saves nearly 20,000 tons of CO2 per year.
