JI (Joint Implementation)

Joint Implementation (JI) is a flexible mechanism for the reduction of emissions, intended by the Kyoto Protocol. The reduction of emissions resulting from JI is credited exclusively to the country which invests in this reduction. The basic idea is that it does not matter where emissions are reduced, as long as they are being reduced. JI thus enables a transfer of emission reduction rights from one country to another.
